Wabi-Sabi 2

The book -Wabi-Sabi for Artists, Designers, Poets and Philosophers by Leonard Koren, published by Stone Bridge Press in Berkeley, contains the best description and explanation of this Japanese concept I have ever read.

Nothing stands still. Everything is in the process of either waxing, growing, being born, or waning, shrinking and dying…

Those not busy being born R busy dying – Bob Dylan
When U stop learning U begin 2 die……

Art + Physics

I am reading a wonderful book called Art + Physics. It concludes that Artists have often pre-saged Scientists. Intuition before knowledge. If this is true what does it mean about the future of our country? No art education in school…..might very well mean less scientific progress……

In the Arms of Love

We are done mixing and yesterday we started to master the lullaby album.

When I add up the actual length of the songs I get a total of 66 minutes and 33 seconds. That could be a lucky number!

I might give the album the serial number 92001, because 9 is a Chinese lucky number and because Spiral Subwave Records International was founded in the year 2001.

In the Arms of Love: Lullabies 4 Children + Adults…is an invitation to retreat in2 an aural landscape that soothes + caresses, an oasis that is relaxing but never boring. Music that is meditative + yet sensual + full of surprises. An island that is exotic + new + yet comforting + familiar…Unique instrumental soundscapes w seductive melodies. Original music w ambient atmospheres in hi fidelity. Music 4 dreaming @ all hours between night + day.

Computers in School

Computers in Classrooms: 30 whirring Hard Drives make quite a lot of collective noise…add to that the sound of 30 students typing and you have a serious noisefloor in the room. Do students learn more or BETTER w a computer? I am NOT talking about computer classes as everybody needs to learn about that….I mean using computers during all other classes. Have there been studies regarding this? Most of the information flows from the teachers mind via his mouth to the students mind via their ears, right? The rest is just information storage – notebooks, computers etc.
I mean if it is NOT about the teachers – student relationship then one could just study at home via the internet. I do believe that having a computer at home helps to digest the information, but does it help in the classroom? Just wondering…..

Wabi-Sabi

Reading:

1. Wabi-Sabi for Artists, Designers, Poets & Philosophers – Leonard Koren (ISBN 1-880656-12-4)
Here are a few words from the above book which I wrote down in my laptop to keep reflecting about them:
How do you pay attention to all the necessary details without becoming fussy? How do you achieve simplicity without inviting boredom? Pare down to the essence, but don’t remove the poetry! Keep things clean and unencumbered, but don’t sterilize. Things wabi-sabi are emotionally warm, never cold…..

2. The Nautical Chart – Arturo Perez-Reverte
This is his latest novel. I have read all of the books by Perez-Reverte and would only wish to be able to read them in Spanish!

3. Mutations (ISBN 84-95273-51-9)
This book is mainly about THE CITY and includes the very interesting Rem Koolhas Harvard Project on the City.
