Love of Thousands

Walking, I can almost hear the redwoods beating. And the oceans are above me here, rolling clouds, heavy and dark. It is winter and there is smoke from the fires. It is a world of elemental attention, of all things working together, listening to what speaks in the blood. Whichever road I follow, I walk in the land of many gods, and they love and eat one another. Suddenly all my ancestors are behind me. Be still, they say. Watch and listen. You are the result of the love of thousands.

– Linda Hogan

You are the result of the love of thousands. I love that. If we imagine humanity in four dimensions we might see a long worm of DNA manifesting in the multitudes, changing, aquiring, individual experience distilled into genetic memory, winding itself through our entire history.

I love the world you live in, Ottmar. It is infinite, multi-dimensional.

What did Linda Hogan mean by many gods that love and EAT one another?

I have felt that presence of the “thousands” of my ancestors, loving, thinking, being. The billions of loving hearts inhabiting Earth right now. Plus the love of the junipers, pinions, clouds, snowy peaks, and oh the birds….. All-encompassing love.

I have parents here no longer, nor an aunt or uncle, and I am an only child; I never had children or step-children. Yet, I feel a rich belonging to this phenomenal and vast creation.

(Ottmar, I was shocked when I
Googled Linda Hogan. First came this buxom blond bombshell, ex-wife of the wrestler Hulk Hogan. “Wow, Ottmar,” I thought. Then I saw the entry for the beautiful poet Linda Hogan. Ha ha ha! I will read more of her.)
