Food

I heard many people praise the local food, but I didn’t love it. I thought about this and realized that, while I appreciate tradition, I do prefer new creations. Tradition is a platform from which to jump off, I find. So I decided to find a few restaurants that mixed culinary methods and created new fusions from traditional concepts. I found several such places and really enjoyed the food. The menu pictured here does not do justice to the food served. It lists the ingredients but not the processes, the fermentations for example. I was happy to discover that there is a creative and young energy here that plays with ideas instead of enshrining them into tradition.

Layers of a City

Two photos from yesterday. There are many layers to the city. Streets above streets. Steep streets, long staircases, but also the river and large squares. In some directions you can walk much faster than cars can possibly go, because they have to thread the needle through lots of one way streets. Today I discovered a local easter egg, an elevator that takes people from the ground level street entrance of a house to the fourth level, which in turn is the ground level of the street running behind the house.

Wish

This morning I was thinking about my wishes and hopes for the new year when I remembered a saying I heard many years ago. That saying is from India, I learned, and goes like this:

A healthy person has 10,000 wishes, a sick person only one.

There must be many millions of people who all have the same wish. May many of them come true.

When I think of the people who have only one wish it is only logical to also think of other beings who wish to survive, species on the verge of extinction, forests getting wiped out for cattle ranches, and so on.

May all beings be safe

May all beings be healthy

May all beings be happy

May all beings be free
