Wish

This morning I was thinking about my wishes and hopes for the new year when I remembered a saying I heard many years ago. That saying is from India, I learned, and goes like this:

A healthy person has 10,000 wishes, a sick person only one.

There must be many millions of people who all have the same wish. May many of them come true.

When I think of the people who have only one wish it is only logical to also think of other beings who wish to survive, species on the verge of extinction, forests getting wiped out for cattle ranches, and so on.

May all beings be safe

May all beings be healthy

May all beings be happy

May all beings be free

I started thinking of my wishes; of course I have many. I was led to my blessings, also many. Then my appreciation went beyond personal. On my breakfast plate, I looked closely at a spinach leaf _ so beautiful, so green, full of sunlight. Many people efficiently contributed to its arrival on my plate. And the gorgeous pasture-raised boiled egg, with its lovely golden yolk. Think of the generous hen who provided this and, again, the many folks who contributed their expertise. And the beautiful colorful plate…this could occupy the whole day!

Not to ignore problems, attention to the greatness right here seems to strengthen ability to address them.

Don’t forget the forests’ getting wiped out for the seats in Mercedes Benz cars (and others alike).
The irony is that we don’t know the definition of good health until bad health stares us in our faces.
    To compare is painful.
Sometimes poor health serves as a waker-upper.

Thank you for sharing this. I love the quote from India and I share your wish for better stewardship of our beautiful blue dot and all the beings who depend on it.
