Anthropause

A new word…

In a paper published yesterday in Science, a team of geologists found that lockdowns caused human-linked vibrations to drop by as much as 50% between March and May. Collected from 268 seismic stations on every continent, the data reveal noise reductions at 185 sites, from the border between Namibia and Angola to Manhattan. Dubbed an “anthropause”, the lull proceeded as a wave, beginning in China in January before sweeping across the rest of the world in March and April. Even in a borehole 380 metres beneath Auckland, vibrations decreased by a factor of two.

Dear Ottmar, I keep visiting your bear. You captured something special there. Send it to the SANTA FE REPORTER.

I love that you read SCIENCE. It is an awesome feeling that when I step on the Earth, it does make a resonating vibration. Confirms again we are all on the same “spaceship.” My consciousness has just grown a bit.

I enjoyed my time at NASA in the midst of working scientists, some on cutting edges. A guy at Ames Research Center (California) had developed many plants raised in liquids for use in space. His lab was a hydroponic paradise.

I loved biology, chemistry, algebra in high school, but I majored in French and Music in college. Much later, I hungered for the sciences again. For fun I went through an elementary algebra text and then started in Community College in intermediate algebra. Then on to beginning chemistry. The lab experiments were thrilling.

The Chemistry text began by stating that the progressive arrangement of electrons in each element is a glorious example of the divine order of the universe. I would like to study physics, especially considering the reality or unreality of matter. Lot of hard work!
