Software:Music=Rant Many people rant on and on about DRM (Digital Rights Management), the RIAA, and copyright on Music in general. Yet I don't hear them complain about software much. Registering and authorizing software is a pain. Dongles are a pain - and yes, that USB key Logic uses is really a dongle with a new name, and if you should loose it, you have to pony up another $999! And moving software from one computer to another is a real pain!Music is usually sold on a CD. Software comes on a CD. An album of music can take just as long to write, perform, record, mix and master as a piece of software. Writers, you only need a laptop and maybe a HotSpot account so you can sit in your local Starbux to do research and write. Hm, that's about $1,500 - or not even half of a good microphone! Yes, a midi musician or DJ can record very cheaply, but recording acoustic music is very, very expensive. First there are the microphones, the microphone pre-amps, the analog-digital converters, then there is the recording equipment, the amps, the speakers, and then there is the cost a of very quiet room to record in... and don't forget the wiring... Sure, recording music digitally is not as expensive as recording with analog gear used to be (30,000 for a 24 track recorder, 150,000+ for a good analog console... ), but it is still plenty expensive.Hey, why don't you treat music and software DRM with the same disdain?
